Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team and help create the world’s first fully automated cloud-enabled molecular biology lab.

This position will own numerous projects, help build the tools to enable industrial-scale molecular biology research, and bring automation to genome engineering.

 

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design of scientific instruments in an industrial automation context

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design
  • 2+ year of experience in the automation space or instrument design or systems engineering
  • You have designed, built, tested and deployed complex automated instruments
  • You have had a very high level of ownership of the projects you worked on
  • You have designed and built in an industrial context where reliability matters
  • You have an extensive portfolio of badass projects to show us
  • You have a knack for cross-disciplinary problem-solving
  • You are a fast-paced self-starter who contributes innovative ideas
  • You love to work in a fast-paced, innovative and collaborative environment
  • You have good communication skills and a constructive, team dynamic, mindset
  • You are skilled at methodical self-management and project-management
  • You have a great sense of humor :-)
  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering and related work experience

Qualifications 

  • SolidWorks, SolidWorks, SolidWorks
  • The design of custom motion solution, automated doors, clamps, pick and place gantries, belt drives, lead screw drives, bearing selection, seals, pneumatics, applied material science (chemical compatibility), temperature control, liquid handling
  • Familiarity with pneumatics
  • Familiarity with applied material science (chemical compatibility)
  • Seals

Bonus Qualifications

  • Generating wiring diagrams as well as P&ID (SolidWorks Electrical)
  • Strong Python programming skills are a major plus!
  • Quick turn / rapid prototyping experience
  • Previous experience in Biotech
  • Familiarity with microfluidics, pneumatic systems and reagent handling
  • ECAD - Altium Design, KiCAD
  • CAM - HSMWorks
  • CNC - Haas & Datron
